Cody graduated Fall 2014 with a BA in Biblical Studies. He received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS). He is the Senior Pastor at Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol, FL. Cody is married to former BUF graduate Erin Grant (2015), and they have three children, Judah, Knox, and Ransom.
How is your current work serving the purposes of God?
Currently, I am blessed to serve at an established church in the panhandle of Florida. We are actively working to multiply disciples from our home to the nations. One thing that I learned while serving at BUF is that you don’t have to be in the big metropolitan areas to make a difference for the kingdom. You just have to be faithful in making disciples and sending them to the nations.
Do you feel that BUF prepared you for work in your field?
BUF was vital in preparing me for ministry. Through BUF, I was given a solid foundation both theologically and through the intentional efforts of the faculty walking alongside me to ensure that I was developing academically and spiritually. At BUF, I met not only the love of my life, but made friends whom I keep in touch with and have been vital at maintaining a healthy ministry and walk with the Lord.
If you could give one piece of advice to current BUF students, what would say?
Pay attention and keep all your notes. You will find yourself referencing them again and again and again as you study and prepare sermons. Even things that seem basic will come in handy as you get into ministry and begin to do the work of discipling others.
